It was a chance shot, and taken with an iPhone 4 of all things. And yet, this one photo perfectly captured every passionate emotion I've ever had about aviation. Looking at it after the fact, I knew I wanted to pursue aviation photography further.
The regality of an aircraft in the air, the sheer power of the machine overcoming nature's will, and the breathtaking beauty of flight at it's best - these are the things I see in "Punching Thru". A uniquely moment frozen forever, it shows a 747 emerging through a thin wall of low-lying fog with condensation erupting along the wings, a sign of the dynamic physics of flight at work. Fog trails behind the jet as if it is trying to hold it in it's clutches, but the wide body is having none of it. Finally, the brightness in the hole the airplane made as it punched thru castis the entire scene in a warm, golden light.
"Punching Thru" remains my all time favorite, and that's a sentiment shared by the public - more than two years after it's capture, the print remains my best seller.
